1. Queen Elizabeth II was born at 2.40am on 21 April 1926

Her father was the Duke of York, and he later went on to become King George VI. Her mother was also called Elizabeth and ruled by his side as Queen Elizabeth.

2. She was born in Mayfair, London. 

She was born at 17 Bruton Street which is actually now a Chinese restaurant!

3. Queen Elizabeth was crowned on 2 June 1953 in Westminster Abbey.

She succeeded to the Throne after the death of her father, King George VI. She was in Kenya at the time.

4. She was the longest reigning monarch. 

She overtook Queen Victoria, who reigned for just over 64 years.

5. The Queen didn’t just rule over the UK. 

She ruled over lots of other places too! 

King Charles now rules over those same places.

Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, The Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, Saint Lucia, Solomon Islands, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

6. Her favourite dogs were corgis. 

The Queen LOVED corgis. 

She owned over 30 during her reign as the Queen. 

The most she ever owned at once was 13!

7. She owned an elephant, two giant turtles, a jaguar and a pair of sloths

Presents from other countries, all of which live in London Zoo.

8. She was the only person allowed to drive without a drivers license in the UK.

Every driver in the UK needs a driving license. 

That includes a theory test, lots of lessons and a practical test. 

However, the Queen didn’t need to do this.

She was the only person in the UK who didn’t need a driving license.

9. The Queen had two birthdays.

How amazing would it be to have two birthdays?! 

The Queen had two! 

Her real birthday, the day she was born, was on 21st April. 

However, her official birthday was held on a Saturday in June. 

It has been tradition since 1748 that the reigning monarch has their birthday in June because the weather is better and they can celebrate properly!

10. The Queen married Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. 

The Queen was married to Prince Philip who was the Duke of Edinburgh. 

They got married in 1947 at Westminster Abbey. 

Prince Philip was born into the Greek and Danish Royal Family. 

However, before the wedding he had to become a British citizen.

11. She trained to be a mechanic and military truck driver.

The Queen had some hidden talents. 

She trained to be a mechanic and a military truck driver!

Queen Elizabeth II was a part of the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service for World War II. 

12. The first email the Queen ever sent was in 1976. 

The Queen sent her first email on 26th March, 1976.

She was at the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment which was a telecommunications research centre in Malvern. 

The email announced a new programming language. 

13. She had many hobbies 

Including horse riding, pigeon racing and football – she was an Arsenal supporter!

14. The Queen’s children are:

King Charles III, Prince Andrew Duke of York, Anne Princes Royal, Prince Edward Earl of Wessex

15. Queen Elizabeth ll passed away on 8th September, 2022.

She was at Balmoral Castle surrounded by her family.
