Introduction of tier 4
Yesterday the government announced that the whole of London, the southeast and the east of England will be moving into tier 4 at midnight last night.
Travel
There are new travel restriction for whole of England and the advice is to stay local and avoid travel overseas. Travel abroad in tier 4 is not allowed.
Christmas bubble
Previous relaxation of social distancing rules for five days at Christmas has been changed in all tiers. In tier 1, 2 and 3 residents are allowed to meet up with two other households at Christmas Day only. Meeting with anyone from tier 4 is not permitted.
What are the new restrictions in place in London now?
London has been moved into tier 4 and the new message is to: ‘stay at home’.
Non-essential shops, hairdressers, leisure and entertainment venues must be closed.
In London, people must stay at home over Christmas and must not meet up with other households.
Those in tier 4 cannot travel abroad except for essential business only.
People are only allowed to travel for education, childcare and work if they cannot work from home. Nannies are permitted to continue to provide services.
People can take exercise outdoor, visit parks, countryside, public gardens and outdoor sports facilities. In tier 4 one person can exercise outdoor with one other person from another household.
Under the new measures, households are not allowed to mix, but one person is allowed to meet with one other person outside in a public space.
The local rules are likely to last for months.
Everyone is expected to know the regulations in place in their local area to avoid a £1,000 fine and to keep others safe.
