Which games can help children learn the alphabet, read words, numbers & shapes.

Here are our 5 suggestions of educational apps for young kids

While most children love playing on ipads they can have some benefits if they play on certain apps, which may improve their English and Maths skills. Below are our 5 suggestions:

1.

Geraldine’s Phonics it is an app designed to help children learn the skill of blending: joining letter sounds together to make words. They can choose which sound they would like to practise, or do them in the order as they’ll be taught in school; your child will then be given a group of five words that include that letter sound, and has to write each one correctly by selecting the right letters. If they get full marks, they collect a ‘prize’ to go in Geraldine’s cupboard, ranging from piggy banks to loo roll.

Letter Quiz: Alphabet Tracing: it includes four games to develop different skills and they are:  - ABC Flashcards to get started recognizing letters- Letter Identification to test knowledge.

- Matching uppercase and lowercase letters- Alphabet Tracing to practice handwriting.

Hairy Letters: this game helps to learn the letters of the alphabet and how to blend first words in a multisensory way. This app was developed by UK specialists teachers.

Toddler games for two year olds: this is a colourful game and provides educational experience for curious young minds. It teaches names and recognition of letters, numbers, shapes, colours, toys, animals, fruit, vegetables and more.

Touch Follow – this is a free game and it is intended for younger children, and it also teaches the numbers, letters and shapes.
