We recommend the following Maternity Nursing course, which is suitable for anyone who already has a new-born experience:

Maternity Nursing course – Open Certified Nurse (OCN) Level 3 & 4

What is a role of a maternity nurse?

A Maternity nurse provides support to parents with their new-born babies, from birth to up to six weeks old. Their role is to offer guidance and support in handling new-borns including giving advice about the baby’s nursing, sleep routine, bottle sterlisation, bathing, laundry and general advice about how to care for their new-born and also how to intergrate a baby into family life and with other siblings. Maternity nurses can sleep in the baby’s room or separately depending on parents’ wishes.

They are increasingly popular with parents looking for support during their first few weeks with the new-born.

Who is this course suitable for?

If you already have experience caring for new-born babies and wish to help parents to care for their new-borns then this will be an ideal course for you.

It is ideal for those who would like to get a certificate or for those who would like to further their skills.

How is the course run?

The course is run by a maternity nurse at London School of Childcare Studies. She has over 2 decades of experience and also has a degree in Early Years Education.

There are two types of courses; classroom based (in Central London) and online, which are run every three months.

The classroom based course is run over two days over one weekend and the online course can be accessed anywhere in the UK, both are followed by live webinars.

The course normally lasts 6 weeks or it can be completed in 4 weeks minimum.

At the end of the course you will have to complete an assignment, which is based on previous experience or on the placement you are working at and the coursework.
